Sidewalk - A sidewalk (in North America), or pavement (in the British Isles and many Commonwealth countries), is a path for pedestrians that is situated alongside a road or formed like sidewalks that are alongside roads (such as a cement footpath through a park). They are usually constructed of concrete (particularly in the United States and Canada), asphalt, brick (particularly in Europe), stone or (increasingly) rubber, designed for pedestrian traffic and often running alongside a road.
Curb (road) - A curb or kerb (see spelling differences) is the edge where a raised sidewalk, road median, or road shoulder meets an unraised street or other roadway. Typically made from concrete, or earlier from long stones (often granite), the purpose is two-fold: first as a gutter for proper drainage of the roadway, and second for safety, to keep motorists from driving onto the shoulder, median, or sidewalk.
Edger - An edger, also known as a lawn edger or stick edger, is a lawn-care tool used to cleanly separate a lawn from a walkway or other paved surface, such as a concrete sidewalk or asphalt path. Edgers may be manual or automated, typically employing a small two-stroke gasoline motor or an electric motor.
Caisson (engineering) - In engineering, a caisson is a retaining, watertight structure used, for example, to work on the foundations of a bridge pier, for the construction of a concrete dam, or for the repair of ships. These are constructed so that the water can be pumped out so the working environment is dry.
